156 Squadron was an Avro Lancaster heavy bomber squadron in No 3 Group of RAF Bomber Command at this time.All seven crew were killed when aircraft JB746 was lost on a mission to Berlin. Flt Sgt Lumsden was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal for his previous service with 427 Squadron.
