A Thornley Tank Engine
A Thornley Colliery Tank Engine

I purchased this photograph of a Thornley tank engine on Ebay. The reverse of the photograph states that the engine was loaned to another colliery between 1947 and 1956. The original owner, obviously a keen train spotter, wrote the following on the reverse of the photo:

‘No 18 0-6-0ST, Ex-Weardale Steel and Coke Co Ltd, Thornley Colliery Loan.

Loaned to New Brancepeth Colliery Co Ltd and returned to NCB No 3 Area n1/1/47. Scrapped 8/1956.

Any ideas on when and where the photograph was taken most appreciated.
