Thornley Silver Prize Band, circa 1932
Thornley Silver Prize Band, Pre-war

This photograph dates from the circa 1932 and was taken in the Pit Yard. The occasion was a concert trip down to London in which the band created a stir by performing in their pit clothes. I’ll have more on this in due course.

Apart from Edward Kitto Snr, who is the the man standing in the middle of the group and holding the lamp, none of the players have yet been named. Further details welcome. Edward Kitto first became conductor of Thornley Band in 1921, after first leading Thornley Salvation Army Band from 1915. Photograph courtesy of Alan Fulcher.
